Product Description: This Miniature War Medal 1939-1945 is made from lead-free pewter. It is supplied with approximately 9cm of ribbon. The medal is mounted on a fold-over information card that has an image of Field Marshal Montgomery reading the surrender to German officers on the front and has historical information about the medal and cover image on the reverse.
Information: This medal was awarded to all fulltime personnel of the armed forces wherever they were serving, so long as they had served for at least 28 days between 3rd September 1939 and 2nd September 1945. It was granted in addition to the campaign stars and the defence medal. A few categories of civilians who had flown in operational theatres also qualified.
No clasps were issued with this medal but a bronze oak leaf denoted a mention in dispatches. This medal was struck in cupro nickel and issued unnamed.
Cover Image – At Field Marshal Montgomery’s 21st Army group Headquarters at Luneberg Heath, German high ranking officers surrendered. Field Marshal Montgomery is seen reading the surrender terms to the German delegation.
