Henry VIII Combat Sword

Product Description: This 11cm long reproduction of a Henry VIII Combat Sword is made from lead-free pewter. It is supplied with a full-colour information card that has a foot soldiers armour on the front. On the reverse of the card, there is historical information which explains about the royal armour workshop and a tournament between Henry VIII and Francis I, of France. The sword, held in place, and card are supplied in a clear presentation box.

Information: King Henry VIII founded the royal armour workshop at Greenwich Palace in 1515, employing top craftsmen from Italy and Germany. It was responsible for manufacturing armour and edged weapons for the monarch and his armies.

King Henry VIII and King Francis I of France met in 1520 at a tournament in a show of friendship in northern France called ‘The Field of the Cloth of Gold’. Henry was accompanied by nearly 5,000 men and 3,000 horses. This tournament was different in that it concentrated on skill as much as strength and proceedings were usually stopped before the death blow.
