Information: In Tudor times, peacock quills were used as a writing instrument for scribes and scholars. Peacock quills were popular because of their unique and beautiful appearance, and they were also readily available as peacocks were commonly kept as domesticated fowl for their feathers and meat.

Scribes would prepare the quills by trimming the tip to create a sharp point for writing, and create a slit in the tip of the quill to allow the ink to flow smoothly. The quills were then dipped in ink and used to write on parchment or vellum, which were common writing materials of the time.
