Product Description: The Roman Emperor Mouse Mat shows the busts, names and ruling dates of 45 Imperial Emperors starting from Augustus and ending with Diokletian. The bust images have been taken from mainly gold but also some silver coins, which would have been struck during the reign of each emperor. The images are shown on a marble-like background, within a classical key design frame.

The mouse mat measures 235mm x 200mm and is a durable, hardtop mat with a wipe-clean, optical mouse-friendly surface and is supplied on a 3mm foam base.

Information: Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC and replaced by his heir, Octavian who ruled alongside Mark Antony. After the death of Mark Antony, Octavian assumed the title of Augustus and thus became the first emperor of Rome, and the first depicted on the mouse mat.

Rome’s Imperial Period began with the rise of Augustus in 31 BC and lasting until the fall of Rome in AD 476. During this period, Rome saw several decades of peace, prosperity, and expansion. By AD 117, the Roman Empire had reached its maximum extent, spanning three continents including Asia Minor, northern Africa, and most of Europe. The mouse mat shows 43 of the emperors that ruled during this time.

The last emperor on the mouse mat is Diokletian. Shortly after he became Emperor in AD 285, he appointed a co-emperor, and the Roman Empire was split into eastern and western empires, each ruled by its own emperor. Rome continued to decline after that until AD 476 when the western Roman Empire came to an end.
