Dolphin Gem Ring - Pewter

Product Description: This Roman Dolphin Gem Ring is made from lead-free pewter and is supplied with either a red, blue or green gem. It is made up of two dolphins holding the head and gem of the ring by their noses. The ring size can be changed to make it larger or smaller. The ring is supplied in a clear blister mounted to an information card. The information card depicts a Roman mosaic on the front and describes how the Romans wore rings and were followers of fashion on the reverse.

Information: Finger rings were widely worn by men and women in Roman Times. These were generally made from gold, silver or bronze. Gem stones were used to adorn necklaces, earrings and were especially popular in rings. Gold rings were a badge of rank for equestrians and rings with carved stones were used to seal documents.

Roman men were keen followers of fashion. They wore a knee-length sleeveless tunic with undergarments and various types of cloak. On formal occasions they wore a heavy white toga.

Women wore an inner and outer tunic of wool, or linen and sometimes, a cloak. Wealthy women wore imported silks and cottons from China and India. Make-up was also used and a pale facial complexion was very fashionable.
