Information: This brooch is an exact replica of a 1st Century Roman boar fibula (clothes fastening). This design would itself have been copied by the earlier boar designs of the Celts.

The animals depicted on ancient Roman Zoomorphic jewellery were typically stylised from creatures that were spiritually significant to the Celts. These included hares, swans, stags, fish, horses, eagles and the boar.

Boars roamed the forests of ancient Britain and were hunted by the Romans. The boar represented strength and images of boars, alone or as part of a hunting scene, have been discovered decorating a wide range of objects.
