Product Description: The Elizabeth II Crown coin pack contains an original 1977 jubilee crown coin of Elizabeth II. The double-sided pack has a hole in which the coin is held in a clear blister, this allows both the obverse and reverse to be clearly seen. The full colour card shows the royal coat of arms on the front. There is historical information about the crown on the back.

Information: The Crown, originally known as the “crown of the double rose”, was introduced by King Henry VIII in 1526 with the value of 5 shillings. The first coins were minted in gold and the first silver crowns were produced from the reign of King Edward VI.

The face value of the crown remained at five shillings from 1544 to 1965. After decimalisation in 1971, the face value kept its five shillings equivalent at 25 pence. From 1990, the crown had a face value of five pounds.

In 1965 the crown depicted Elizabeth II on the obverse and the reverse carried the image of Sir Winston Churchill, the first time a non-monarch was ever placed on a British coin.

In 1977 a crown was struck to celebrate the silver jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The coin obverse depicted the Queen on horseback and the reverse the coronation ampulla and anointing spoon encircled by a floral border and surmounted by a crown.
