Product Description: The George VI Half Crown coin pack contains an original half crown coin of George VI. The double-sided pack has a hole in which the coin is held in a clear blister, this allows both the obverse and reverse to be clearly seen. The full colour card shows the royal coat of arms on the front. There is historical information about the half crown on the back.

Information: A halfcrown was first issued during the reign of Henry VIII and was made of gold. The first silver halfcrowns were struck under Edward VI and continued to be silver or cupro-nickel until 1967, when the last halfcrowns were produced for circulation. The halfcrown had a value of two shillings and sixpence, being one-eighth of a pound.

Halfcrowns were produced for George VI between 1937 and 1951 and Elizabeth II between 1953 and 1967. The George VI coin obverse shows an effigy of the King, while the reverse shows a shield with crowned double G ciphers on either side. The Elizabeth II coin obverse shows the head of the Queen. The reverse shows a crowned shield with E & R to each side.

The halfcrown was demonetised on 1st January 1970, the year before the United Kingdom adopted the decimal currency.
