Product Description: This Elizabeth II Florin Key-Ring is made using an original florin coin of Elizabeth II. It is supplied on a quality key-chain. The key-ring is presented on a Nostalgic Britain key-ring header card, which has an image of the royal coat of arms on the front with the title "Original Coin" above.

Information: In 1847 Parliament considered introducing a decimal currency but instead decided to introduce a one-tenth of a pound coin to test public opinion. The first florins, with a value of two shillings, were struck in 1849 as silver coins and unusually featured the monarch, Victoria, wearing a crown.

Florins were produced for George VI between 1937 and 1951 and Elizabeth II between 1953 and 1967. The George VI coin shows and effigy of the King on the obverse while the reverse shows a crowned rose flanked by a thistle and shamrock, with G below the thistle and R below the shamrock. The Elizabeth II obverse shows the head of the Queen, while the reverse shows a Tudor rose in the centre surrounded by thistles, shamrocks, and leeks.

In 1968 the ten pence coin was issued in preparation for the 1971 currency decimalisation. It was the same size and weight as the florin. The florin remained in circulation until the size of the decimal ten pence was reduced in 1992, and the florin ceased to be legal tender in 1993.
