Set of 4 Egyptian Gods in Pack

Product Description: This set of 4 Egyptian God figures, each measuring 4cm tall, are made from lead-free pewter. The four different gods in the pack are Anubis, Horus, Bast and Osiris. The supplied information card is full colour with an image from an Egyptian funeral scroll on the front and has historical information on the reverse, together with an image of all four of the Egyptian Gods. The figures and card are held in a clear clam-shell pack.

Information: The ancient Egyptians believed in many different gods and goddesses. Each one with their own role to play in maintaining peace and harmony across the land. It was important to recognise and worship these gods and goddesses so that life could continue smoothly.

Anubis was a jackal headed god who was associated with death and was guardian of cemeteries. He was a guide to the dead and also played a part in the judgment of the dead. During the Opening of the Mouth ceremony and mummification, priests often wore masks representing Anubis.

Horus was either represented as a falcon or as a man with a falcon’s head and was the god of the sky. His father was Osiris and his mother Isis. Horus’ left eye was seen as the moon and his right eye the sun and they crossed the sky when he flew across it. In ancient Egypt the left Eye of Horus, or his Wadjet Eye was an important symbol of power and was considered a powerful protective amulet.

Osiris was the god of the underworld. He became the most prominent god in the Middle and New Kingdoms among the common people of Egypt. In Osiris, the people saw the possibility that all Egyptians had a chance of an afterlife, not just the Pharaoh, which was commonly believed during the Old Kingdom period.

In ancient Egypt the cat was worshipped as a sacred animal. The god Bast or Bastet was usually seen as a gentle protective goddess with the body of a woman and the head of a cat. She sometimes appeared with the head of a lioness to protect the king in battle. She was also the protector of cats, women and children and the Goddess of sunrise.
