Product Description: This 3.5cm tall Egyptian Cat is made from resin that is hand painted black with gold detail. It is supplied with a full-colour information card that has an image of an Egyptian funeral scene with an Egyptian cat overlayed on top of it. There is also historical information which explains about the Goddess Bast and why animals were important to the ancient Egyptians. The cat and folded card are supplied in a clear box.

Information: This fine reproduction model is of a cat sacred to the Egyptian goddess of love, fertility and joy, Bast or Bastet. The worship of Bast dates from at least 4000 BC, reaching its height around 1500 BC when thousands of pilgrims poured into the temple at Bubastis to take part in the annual festival.

Animals were important to the ancient Egyptians whether for food, as pets or to worship. The different gods the Egyptians worshipped had characteristics of animals and were depicted with human bodies and animal heads.

Many Egyptians lived near the Nile River which was filled with crocodiles, hippos, turtles, frogs as well as numerous fish and birds.
