Cleopatra & Mark Antony Coin Pack - Busts Denarius

Product Description: This reproduction Denarius coin of Cleopatra and Mark Antony is moulded directly from an original coin and is made from pewter. The wallet type packaging has a hole on the front in which the coin is held in a clear blister. The coin pack has images of Cleopatra, Mark Antony and the two coins in the collection and has historical information about the coins and about the relationship of Cleopatra and Mark Antony.

Information: The Denarius coin commemorates the conquest by Mark Antony over the Armenians in 34 BC. The obverse depicts a bust of Mark Antony and the reverse a bust of Cleopatra.

Cleopatra VII was born in 69 BC - 68 BC and was the last pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. When her father Ptolemy XII died in 51 BC, Cleopatra ruled jointly with her two brothers, Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy XIV, whom she married as per Egyptian custom. Eventually she became sole ruler.

Mark Antony was in dispute with Julius Caesar’s adopted son Octavian over the succession to the Roman leadership. In 41 BC he began both a political and romantic alliance with Cleopatra. They subsequently had three children.

In 31 BC, Mark Antony and Cleopatra combined armies to take on Octavian’s forces in a great sea battle at Actium and in a brief land battle at Alexandria. Octavian was victorious and Cleopatra and Mark Antony fled to Egypt.

After believing the Cleopatra was dead, Mark Antony took his own life and Cleopatra chose the same course, committing suicide on 12 August 30 BC. Egypt became a province of the Roman Empire.
